'Nice & Sweet'

'Getting on track', I've discovered, is marked by many little tests. Like yesterday. We have a lovely old volunteer in our building that, two days a week, comes around to each and everyone's desk to say hello in the morning. He cleans up the common kitchen and makes cups of tea for the girls. Notice I said girls there; I have a slight inkling that this is no mistake in observation from me, and in fact I could probably go as far as saying your chance of tea and visits increases directly in relation to age, or rather the lack of it. But at his age, and after washing all our dishes, who's going to take that from him!

This lovely old volunteer is also one of the sources that lead to my rather often undoing. Yesterday he popped his head in the door to tell me about Pavlova in the fridge, which I was more than welcome to help myself to. 'It’s nice, nice and sweet!', he exclaimed with a cheeky laugh....

I sat at my computer, acknowledging him with a smile and a thank you, but thinking 'I WILL NOT get up, I WILL NOT have it, I WILL sit here like I'm none the wiser and I WILL NOT think about it any further!'

A couple deep sighs later, 'phew'. At that moment and I'm sure just as a test, the volunteer suddenly popped his head around the door frame again. 'I meant to tell you, its extra special today'. It had been made by one of my colleagues who studied and worked as a chef.... I WILL NOT get up.

One of the terrible things about yesterday is that I don't even like Pavlova. The more terrible issue though is that I can often really struggle just knowing food, mainly sugary food is around, no matter what it is...or seemingly the consequences! While I'm not pretending I'll never eat sugary foods I am at least going to learn to better choose which ones to enjoy; enjoying in extreme moderation and most importantly, dosing for them right away!
