Aussie Aussie Aussie!

 Happy Australia Day Everyone!

I have to say I am excited this morning; well that’s an understatement really... I'm super excited! (Better watch those blood sugars!) The Diabetes Australia – Queensland e-newsletter U-Turn was emailed out to all its members yesterday and I’ve had a great response to both ‘Run for Type 1’ and this blog. Thank you to everyone who is visiting, I hope that my ‘dairy’ type blogging helps people in some way.
Please feel free to leave feedback as I’d love to hear from you or head to the ‘Run for Type 1’ section of this blog to find out how you can get involved and help me reach my goals for Diabetes Queensland this June. Also thank you to the very kind woman who emailed me and let me know the feedback/comment sections weren’t working properly on this site! Evidence that I’m clearly new to the blogging world!

Today is fast turning out to be the best Australia Day ever! Although I may have got a bit ahead of myself in excitement and missed my run this morning...Lucky it’s a public holiday and I can go make up for it once I finish this blog. It’s not that I’m hard on myself or fanatical about diet and exercise as such, rather one of my biggest issues when it comes to blood sugar control is my morning readings (and we all know how mornings have the power to dictate your whole day). I have struggled for a long time to a) Have a beautifully perfect reading when I wake up and b) Keep my blood sugar from peaking after breakfast.

It would appear that my body gets rather sluggish after a night’s sleep. Before I started running in the mornings, I used to inject up to double the ratio equivalent compared to at other meals. So at all meals from lunch onwards, I required 2 units per CP but at breakfast I needed 3 or more units for every CP. Now I require 1.5 : 1CP for all meals – something I’m very happy about! If I don’t exercise morning and evening however, it only takes 24 – 48 hours before I require 2:1 again.

I have also either completely eradicated or have no more than 2CP for dinner. I’m not suggesting everyone do this, however I can tell you that on this program I am the happiest and most stable I can ever remember being in my adult life.
