The Flow On Effect

Usually when I make any major changes to my lifestyle (eating habits, exercise regime, new job etc) I tend to see the changes effect my blood sugars about 48 - 72 hours later. So obviously with the 'New Year, New Me' approach I've been taking in 2012, I expected to see a few swings in my blood sugars and consequently adjust my overall insulin intake, particularly my long acting. But overall, there hadn't really been anything significant to report. That was...until, last night.

I have upped the pressure on my gym workouts over the last few days, and combined with my new found discipline across eating, monitoring and dosing, my blood sugars are finally reflecting the change. While I am excited and proud to be sticking to my new year's resolutions, its isn't without some panic, exhaustion and frustration. (What's that saying about falling off the horse!!!)

At 6pm yesterday my BG was 4.8 for which I had 1.5 CP. At midnight I'd dropped to 1.5! This morning I skipped the gym due to the rough night (yet still ate and medicated relatively the same) and by 8:30am I was 2.9. I'm exhausted right now to say the least!

Through all of this though, I am still extremely positive as I hope this means I now need less insulin per CP intake and that my metabolism has picked up. I am seeing the Diabetes Centre on Monday (first time in WAY too long) and am actually really excited to sit down and work it all out!
