New Year. New Me.
And its about time! After 16 years with Type 1 Diabetes, I have decided it is 'now or never' that I will truely knuckle down and take charge. No excuses. While I have always eaten well and generally looked after myself, I cannot go as far as to say that I have taken a proactive approach to my health. Enter 2012. This is the year.
Of course, like so many others, I have entered this year full of hope and anticipation for a great year ahead. My list of 'resolutions' grows by the day! Here are my top five:
1. Diabetes is #1.
Topping my list this year is tighter control of my diabetes, for stable blood sugars and the best HbA1c that I've had in years. To achieve this I will need to keep stress, sugar and carbs to a minimum and excercise, happiness and commitment to a maximum! The biggest achivement here will be setting in place a new 'normal' schedule and approach to living with diabetes for myself. Part B of this goal is to also take as little insullin as possible....which brings me to number 2.
2. Food & Fitness = Road to Wellness
These two elements excite and intrigue me. It might sound dorky, but I love reading nutirition labels and understanding how excercise and food effect the body. This year I want to delve deeper into how they effect diabetes and can assist me to take as little medication as possible.
3. Happy Happy HAPPY NEW year
I am simply going to make the decision to be more happy. Everyday. I'm lucky and I want to acknowledge this daily - not letting the little things stress or worry me. Its onwards and upwards!
4. Changing lanes
While I love my job for its challenges and scope of duties, I have that niggly feeling in the pit of my stomach that tells me it's time for change. It could be as small as a different work perspective in my current role or an entire career change. I don't know what will happen just that it will...this year.
5. Me Time
I'm not going to feel guilty about doing things for me! Whether it be a new pair of runners, a trashy gossip mag, or holiday escapes with my partner. I earnt it, its my life, I deserve to enjoy it a little. A happier me is the key to the cycle. Healthy mind and body = Better blood sugars = Happier me and so the cycle goes.
To achieve all this I have to hold myself accountable. So this blog is my witness, confidant, teacher, parole officer and everything in between to get me where I want to be. If you're reading this, you're already helping me too! Happy 2012!
