MM Wedding: Blue Circles and WDD

I am blessed.

This is what World Diabetes Day looked like for me this year.

That there is a bunch of my beautiful friends showing me they are aware and support our cause. And that's just the beginning. There were texts and emails and phone calls. There were conversations about diabetes and donations to diabetes related causes and orgs. This year was different to any other year before. Why?

Because this year I made a big effort to voice my cause, my plight, my journey, with my nearest and dearest at one of the biggest days of my life. My Wedding Day.

As you may have noticed, I've spent the better part of the last two years planning a wedding in every spare moment I could find. And it quickly became apparent that diabetes was going to play a big part in the planning and of course be there on the big day with me. Even more than that though, I really saw just how much diabetes was ingrained in my relationship with my now husband, and how much a part it would continue to play. So. Rather than bury or ignore, we decided to incorporate diabetes into our wedding day.

Although some inclusions were unplanned... I went low. Right as I was about to leave for the ceremony. Thanks a lot diabetes. Very inconvenient and consequently I was 15 mins late... to a church that was less than 5 mins down the street.

The first photo in this post came about because the blue circle pin was the main way we included diabetes in our wedding day. At our 'first look', our bridesmaids and groomsmen were each presented with blue circle pins and we had a pinning ceremony.

At the church, our guests were greeted by one of my beautiful high school friends, who I dubbed our blue circle angel. She held a basket of blue circle pins and gave each guest one as they entered the church, with a little WDD note attached. Once everyone was seated, Hubby-to-be explained the significance. Every guest was our 'Something Blue'. The pins were a symbol of being a part of our wedding party (this also helped as our reception was in a public park), a symbol of thanks for joining us on our wedding day and a symbol of a donation we had made on behalf of each guest before us, but most importantly, it was a symbol of such a large part of our journey so far, and now our future together.

It is beyond special and truly beautiful to look back through all our wedding photos and see the blue circles in the smiles.

And where was mine?

Well...

no matter how much I try to accommodate, accept, embrace, whatever diabetes... it can still be a bit of a pain in the butt!

  1. First, I will congratulate you for your marriage. Really it is very hard to manage all the things in our life simultaneously. Apart from this, All the wedding pics are very awesome and you are looking very great in the wedding gown. My wedding is also planed in the next month and I hired Bali wedding photographer for the purpose of photography.

  2. This wedding location venue is gorgeous. It has very high ceilings and huge windows offering a tremendous view of the city. The food was also good, on par with normal function type dining.
